Polishing Up My Dancing Shoes

blog_dancingshoesZumba is a lot of fun, except now I want Amos to take me out somewhere and twirl me around a dance floor – on a date. When my kids were little, I wasn’t always a boring mommy, to entertain them I’d turn on old re-runs of Soul Train and dance around the house with them. However, when life called, I forgot about how much fun it was to dance until I met him.

So I did a little research online and found this organization San Francisco, Dance Out Diabetes, and now I want to dance for both the exercise and health benefits as well as for the sheer joy of dancing. They offer Zumba and host 60s, 70s, 80s themed dance parties for diabetics like me. They even have belly dancing and to be honest that’s a class I’m curious about. But it is those dance parties that have me most interested.

Here are a few health benefits we diabetics can derive from dancing:

  • Social dancing can be easy on the joints as it works the muscles
  • Reduces stress and tension
  • As an exercise it can ward off the effects of serious illness
  • Increases flexibility and stamina
  • Great for self-confidence

Yes I know that Dance Out Diabetes is in San Francisco, but there’s nothing stopping me from finding a dance party around my area just so I can dance. Plus, they have videos on YouTube that I can dance to right in my living room. https://www.youtube.com/user/DanceOutDiabetes

I’m polishing up my dancing shoes. I just hope Amos can keep up.
